Hansen's Sno-Bliz is a legendary icon. The painted 69 years on the side is only one testament to this institution's mark on the city of New Orleans. Now operated by the original owners granddaughter, Hansen's is what I, and many, would call the best snowball in New Orleans. For the non-New Orleans readership, you may not appreciate this infamous Summer treat that brings visions dancing to every New Orleanian head young or old. Point in case, you should try one, and no, don't even think it, they are nothing like sno-cones.
We used to live two blocks from Hansen's, meaning I frequented there multiple times a week. Last October we moved, a whole 10 minutes away, so I haven't been able to go this year. So, Wednesday I went to Hansen's for the first time this snowball season. This time was special though, because a new friend from church Josiah, apparently frequents there so much he has his own flavor...Josiah's Own. Half cream of nectar (my favorite) and half Mary's own. It was a great combination I must say! I must say I have never ordered a menu item named after someone I knew. The trip was complete with Josiah himself showing up to get a snowball and hanging out with some Redeemer guys.
In the words of my friend Joe, "I can't think of a better way to spend a dollar."
